Spruiell/Spruill family may have been German origin long ago but familycame from England. They were wealthy and either of Royal blood or atleast were "blue blood". They were cotton brokers before the Civil War,but lost their money in the aftermath of the war.

WRS enlisted in the Confederate Army on 3-20-1862 in St. Clair Co., Al.He served in Co. H., 30th Al Infantry until his caprure at Vicksburg, MS,July 4, 1863 and was paroled 7-8-1863.

WRS maybe served with 18th Al Reg., was wounded in palm of hand andafterwards became the cook.

Spelling of last name may be Spuriell rather than Spruill or Spruell,perK. B. Schwartz of Dallas Texas and Alta Derryberry of Garland,Texas.Alta is a great- great-granddaughter.

William served with the Co. H., 30th Alabama Infantry. He was captured atVicksburg, Mississippi on 4 July, 1863 and was paroled 8 July 1863. Hemay have served with the 19th Alabama Infantry Regiment. He was woundedin the palm of his hand and afterwards became the cook. HisCivil WarPension file # 41265 was approved in Jan. 4, 1924 - Texas State Archives,Austin, Texas.

William and Hester were married in Georgia and lived in Conecuh County and St. Clair County, Alabama for a time. It is believed that the familymoved to Texas in 1894, but returned to Alabama about 1896,then moved back to Texas about 1900. It was believed by Della V.Dunlap Hill, agranddaughter of Hester, that all the children were born in Alabama, but others believe that the first three children were born in Georgia. His ancestors came from Ireland.

Kirk, I have been troubled trying to find your lineage relating to my family. There are so many Jepthas and Williams it is hard to keep them separate and identified.

My paternal grandmother, Alice Valerie Spruiell, who married Milton Clinkscales was the daughter of William ROBERT Spruiell. The first 3 children of William Robert were born in Georgia, the remaining 10 were born in Alabama, St. Clair and Shelby Counties,1868-1890. My grandmother stayed in Alabama when her father moved the family to Texas.
My genealogy I was given by one of the daughters of grandmother's sister in Texas takes us from William Robert Spruiell, to John S. Spruiell, 20 Nov 1817, to George C. Spruiell ,1760/1770 - 21 April 1835 to John Spruiell,1730/40 - 1808.

I would like to be able to identify your Charles Edger Spruiell and Ira J. Spruiell.
And be able to go on correctly. Thanks
